An overview of COVID-19 infection in dental practices - a questionnaire survey

Dental nurses and practitioners are at high risk of exposure to COVID-19 due physical proximity body fluids during treatment. practices have implemented multiple protective protocols decrease transmission; however, it is difficult evaluate how effective these measures are, as there limited data on in dental practices. To infection rates among dentists, staff, patients different countries through an online survey, with a primary focus South Africa (SA). Cross-sectional survey. One hundred fifty-four participants from 52 answered the 48.6% (n=561) SA. infections were reported 18.2% (n=210) Only 1.1% regarded practice source for dentists staff who got infected. In total, 13.9% (n=160) treated patients. SA presented higher rate (19% vs 13%, p=0.04) more frequent treatment than other combined (17% 11%, p=0.006). These findings support need maintain strict control transmission SARSCoV-2 delivery oral care.
